 Job Summary
The Montessori Teacher Assistant supports the lead teacher by preparing
the classroom, observing student progress, and facilitating a nurturing
learning environment.  This position requires love, patience, and respect for children, Encourage the children to be independent and model the appropriate manners and behaviors. Instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth following the philosophies of Maria Montessori.


Key Responsibilities include the following - Other duties may be
assigned.
Classroom Preparation - The assistant helps prepare and maintain the
Montessori classroom environment, ensuring that materials are organized, clean
and assessable to students. This includes replenishing supplies and arranging
learning materials according to Montessori principles.


Supporting Individual Learning - Assisting the lead teacher in providing
individualized instruction, the assistant may facilitate small group lessons or one-on-one support, helping students engage with Montessori materials effectively.


Observation and Documentation - Regularly observing students as they work
and play is crucial. The assistant documents children's progress and behavior,
sharing insights with the lead teacher to inform personalized instruction.


Maintaining Classroom Order - Ensuring a tidy and safe environment is
essential. The assistant helps manage classroom dynamics, supports children in
developing social skills, and maintains a peaceful atmosphere conducive to
learning.


Collaboration with the Lead Teacher - The assistant works closely with the
lead teacher, following their cues and taking initiative to support students' needs
across various development areas - physical, emotional, social, and intellectual.


Participation in Meeting and Events - Engaging in team meetings, and
school events is part of the role. The assistant may also help organize and
execute special projects or cultural celebrations within the classroom.


Professional Development - Montessori teacher assistants are encouraged to
pursue ongoing training and professional development to enhance their skills
and understanding of Montessori Pedagogy.


Requirements
*High School Diploma or a general educational development certificate,
thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university; or one to two
years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
*Valid PA Driver's License or PA Identification Card.
*CPR and First Aid - must be obtained within 90 days of hire,
*Child Abuse Clearance and Criminal Record Check are required,
*Federal Criminal History Clearances are required for all out of state resident,
*National Sex Offender Registry Clearance,
*Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire,
*Health and Safety Training within 90 days of hire.

Summary

This position requires love, patience and respect for children, encourage the children to be independent and model for them appropriate manners and behaviors. Instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth following the philosophies of Maria Montessori by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Adhere to company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable with Montessori terminology and methods.
  • Assist the head teacher with providing the children with a “prepared environment”.
    • Keep the classroom clean and inviting
  • Assist with individual and/or group activities to stimulate growth of the children in social, emotional and academic areas.
  • Assist the children by moving around;
    • Complete different work cycles
    • Choosing work
    • Returning work when the child completes his task
  • Encourage individual work time to promote independence as well as group work to promote socialization.
  • Be present at parent/teacher conference
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children, parents and co-workers.
  • Participate in all open houses and school programs.
  • Serve snack and lunch while helping children to learn how to help themselves.
    • Demonstrate open/closing lunch bags
    • Allow children to be ad independent as possible
    • Encourage the children to feed themselves
  • Responsible for diaper changing and/or assisting with toileting while demonstrating respect for the child.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of room in the following areas:
    • Sweep/mop lunch area during nap time
    • Vacuum classroom at the end of the academic day
    • Clean bathrooms at least once a day
    • Emptying trash to dumpster at the end of the academic day
    • Disinfecting work and dusting shelves weekly

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or a general educational development certificate, 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
